Holland Track Condition ReportsCALM Kalgoorlie 21 March 2005The track is navigable (and the fire is out) but there are still trees down across it in the burnt area and people are developing drive-arounds. These are usually very tight, so trailers, etc will be a problem. If you do the trip and the opportunity presents, it would be helpful if you are able to pull a couple of trees off the track every bit helps. TLCCWA has a working bee organized for May. CALM Kalgoorlie via Track Care 17 December 2004The Holland Track between the Banker Mount Day Rd and Thursday Rock has been closed until further notice, due to a wildfire continuing to burn in the area. Approximately 25 KM of the track has been impacted on to date. For further information please contact the CALM Kalgoorlie office on (08) 9021 2677. TLCCWA 16-20 October 2004We had a great trip along the Holland Track. The track was dry but may have collected a bit of rain as we left. We had no problems negotiating the track. We travelled without the need to fold back our mirrors and virtually no scratching. (I mention this because we have had a couple of reports claiming that the track is overgrown but that was NOT our experience and we see no need to trim back any of the vegetation). Some of the boggy areas, particularly from Sheoak Rock to Wattle Rock and a few kms north east are significantly deeper than last year and the track appears to have been travelled when it was too wet. We did not fill any of it in because the low lying areas will accumulate water and filling in the holes with the surrounding clayey soil will only make more mud. With care we were able to negotiate the track. There is also another rutted area on the track into Thursday Rock (off the main track). We moved the fallen trees off the track (about 8 all together) in the Thursday Rock area. One of the posts at the end of the fence at Thursday Rock had fallen over we lifted it up again but it needs to be sunk further into the ground when the ground is damp and soft. (Very difficult to dig when dry even the machine was battling when we first erected the fence). The fences and bollards appear to be doing their job of keeping 4 WDs out. The only evidence of driving over Diamond Rock and Thursday Rock was from motor cycles (they can negotiate the walk tracks). We did fill in some wheel ruts at Newby Rock where vehicles have been driven off the main track and round the base of the rock. Your report after you travel the track would be welcome. Please take some time when you get home to contact us regarding track conditions and other points of interest. Last updated 14Nov04 |
